A narrow valley, 15 miles long and 0.5 mile wide, surrounded by pine forests, steep mountains and white glaciers. The 6 different cable cars are in red. These open in summer (from mid-June) and again for winter skiing.

| Argentiere | At 1250m, a popular base for Grands Montets skiers in winter and for campers in summer. |
| Les Praz | The village at the foot of the Flegere cable car at 1060m. |
| Chamonix | The main town at 1050m. |
| Les Houches | at 950m. |
| Servoz | at 800m. |
